In his first public response, Udit downplayed the situation, stating that it should not be given undue attention and emphasising that he is a “decent person.”

He remarked, “Hum log aise nahi hain, hum decent log hain” (We are not like this; we are decent people). He further explained that fans express their admiration in different ways, whether through handshakes or other gestures, and questioned why such a big issue was being made of the incident.

“Uspe itna dhyaan nahi dena chahiye” (It shouldn’t be given so much attention), Udit Narayan stated, urging people not to overanalyse the situation. He hinted at the possibility of an ulterior motive behind the backlash, suggesting that his family’s clean image might make them a target. He also pointed out that his son, Aditya Narayan, stays away from controversies, and some people may be trying to create unnecessary drama.

Addressing the viral incident directly, Udit insisted that the kiss was not a deliberate act but rather a spontaneous moment that happened in the heat of the performance. He maintained that in his 46-year-long career, he has never been associated with such behaviour and deeply respects his fans. He also highlighted that he often folds his hands in gratitude and bows on stage as a gesture of appreciation.

Despite his attempt to clarify the situation, the controversy continues to divide opinions. While some fans defend the singer, others remain critical of his actions, questioning whether such behaviour should be dismissed as fan interaction.
